Part of Me

"He moved through the scriptures with such ease that sometimes it was difficult to know when the words were his and when he was quoting. After one such meeting I asked him how he had gone about memorizing the scriptures. Did he follow a program of memorizing the scriptures, or how had he accomplished this? He thought for a moment and then said, "I don't think I ever consciously memorized a scripture. I guess I have just worked them through so much that they have become a part of me and my vocabulary."

I'll be the first to admit, I'm not very diligent at reading the scriptures, especially these days when I'm still trying to catch up on reading the Conference edition Ensign. I talk about them with my kids, we discuss pictures about them, watch animated movies about them, the kids enjoy reading them online here, but it's rare that I open my actual scriptures and read to my children from them.

Reading this passage has really opened my eyes, it spoke to my heart. I truly would love if the scriptures were "part of me", part of my husband, part of our children. I yern to know all that is in them, for I know that in them we find truth, everlasting life and true happiness. Starting now, I will do better, I will strive to do my best.

"We each do the best we can. My best may not be as good as your best, but it's my best. The fact is that we know when we are doing our best and when we are not. If we are not doing our best, it leaves us with a gnawing hunger and frustration. But when we do our level best, we experience a peace."
